Description Herbs perennial. Rhizome short, ligneous, thick. Culms lateral, 15-50 cm tall, trigonous, covered with brown fibrous sheaths at base. Leaves longer than culms; leaf- blade brownish green» flat, leathery, 4-7 mm wide, acuminate at apex,» scabrous on margins. Involucral bracts shortly leaf-like, shorter than inflorescence, sheathed; sheaths 1-3 cm long, obliquely truncate at orifice. Inflorescence paniculate, with 3 or 4 spikes; terminal spike staminate, clavate-cylindrical, 1. 5-4. 5 cm long, 2. 5-3 mm wide, with a long peduncle at base; lateral spikes pistillate, cylindrical, 1. 5-5 cm long, 7-8 mm wide, densely flowered, bearing a few staminate flowers at apex, pedunculate; peduncles slightly exserted from sheaths, or enclosed. Staminate scales oblanceolate, pale brown, 6-7 mm long, acuminate at apex, brown 1l-veined costa on dorsal surface. Pistillate scales narrowly ovate, pale yellow, 4-5 mm long, acuminate at apex, green 3-veined costa on dorsal surface. Perigynia broadly ovoid or ovoid (excluding beak) , 6-7. 5 mm long, longer than pistillate scales (including beak), obliquely patent, obtusely trigonous, papery, yellowish brown, distinctly veined, sparsely pubescent on upper veins, gradually contracted into a ca. 2.5 mm long beak; orifice 2-lobed with teeth.
