Description Herbs perennial. Rhizome short, ligneous, thick. Culms lateral, 15-40 cm tall, obtusely trigonous, covered with brown bladeless sheaths at base. Leaves longer than culms; leaf-blade green or yellowish green, flat, revolute, leathery, 5-12 mm wide, acuminate at apex» scabrous on margins. Involucral bracts shortly leaf-like, shorter than inflorescence, sheathed; sheaths 0. 6-1. 5 cm long, obliquely truncate at orifice. Inflorescence paniculate, with 3 or 4 spikes; terminal spike staminate, clavate or clavate-cylindrical, 1. 5-2 cm long, 3. 5-4 mm wide, with a peduncle at base; lateral spikes pistillate, cylindrical, 2-3. 5 cm long, 8-10 mm wide, densely flowered, pedunculate; peduncles slightly exserted from sheaths, or enclosed.
