Description Herbs perennial. Rhizome short, ligneous. Culms lateral, 20-40 cm. tall, trigonous , pubescent, covered with brown bladeless sheaths at base. Leaves longer than culms; leaf-blade green or dark green, flat, revolute, leathery, pubescent on both surfaces» 4. 5-13. 5 mm wide» acuminate at apex» scabrous on upper margins. Involucral bracts shortly leaf-like, pubescent, shorter than inflorescence, sheathed; sheaths 1-2 cm long, pubescent, obliquely truncate at orifice. Inflorescence paniculate, with 2-4 spikes; terminal spike staminate, clavate-cylindrical, 2. 5-5 cm long, 5-5. 5 mm wide, with a peduncle at base; lateral spikes pistillate, cylindrical, 3-4. 5 cm long, 10-11 mm wide, densely or slightly densely flowered, bearing a few staminate flowers at apex, pedunculate; peduncles exserted to slightly exserted from sheaths. Staminate scales narrowly ovate, yellowish green, pubescent, 7-8 mm long, acuminate or emarginate at apex, green 3-veined costa excurrent into a long scabrous awn. Pistillate scales ovate,
pale green or yellowish green, pubescent, 5-6 mm long, obtuse or shortly awned at apex, green 3-veined costa on dorsal surface. Perigynia broadly ovoid (excluding beak) , 7-8 mm long, longer than pistillate scales (including beak), obliquely patent, obtusely trigonous, papery, brownish green, distinctly veined, densely pubescent on veins, gradually contracted into a ca. 3 mm long beak; orifice 2-lobed with teeth. Stigmas 3; style thicken at base. Achenes tightly enveloped, rhombic-ovoid, trigonous, 4. 5-5. 5 mm long (including beak), castaneous, with 3 angles constricted at middle, sides concave above and below, shortly curved, stipitate at base, abruptly contracted into a ca. 1 mm long beak at apex, beak slightly curved, annulate at orifice.
