Description Herbs perennial. Rhizome short, ligneous, thick. Culms central, 20-45 cm tall, trigonous, covered with dark brown fibrous sheaths at base. Leaves longer than culms; leaf-blade pale green or yellowish green, flat, revolute, leathery, 5-9 mm wide, acuminate at apex, scabrous on upper margins. Involucral bracts leaf-like, longer than inflorescence, sheathed; sheaths 1-1. 5 cm long, obliquely truncate at orifice, Inflorescence paniculate, with 4 or 5 spikes; terminal spike staminate, linear-cylindrical, 2-3 cm long, 2. 5-3 mm wide, with a short peduncle at base; lateral spikes pistillate, cylindrical, 2-3. 5 cm long, 7-9 mm wide, densely flowered, bearing a few staminate flowers at apex, pedunculate; peduncles slightly exserted from sheaths, or enclosed.
