Description Herbs perennial. Rhizome short, ligneous, thick. Culms lateral, 30-90 cm tall, trigonous, covered with brown fibrous sheaths at base. Leaves longer or shorter than culms; leaf-blade green or yellowish green, flat, revolute, leathery, 4-10 mm wide, acuminate at apex, scabrous on upper margins. Involucral bracts shortly leaf-like, shorter than inflorescence, sheathed; sheaths 1. 5-3 cm long, obliquely truncate at orifice. Inflorescence paniculate, with 2 or 3 spikes; terminal spike staminate, linear-eylindrical, 1-6 cm long, ca. 3 mm wide, with a long peduncle at base; lateral spikes pistillate, cylindrical, 2-6. 5 cm long, 6-7 mm wide, slightly densely flowered, bearing a few staminate flowers at apex, pedunculate; peduncles exserted from sheaths. Staminate scales lanceolate, yellowish brown, ca. 6 mm long, acuminate at apex, brown l-veined costa on dorsal surface.
