Description Herbs perennial. Rhizome short, ligneous. Culms central, 5-20 cm tall, trigonous, scabrous. Leaves longer than culm; petiole 5-10 cm long; leaf-blade green, 1-1. 5 cm wide, flat, acuminate at apex, scabrous on upper margins, gradually narrowed into a petiole at base. Involucral bracts leaf-like, longer than inflorescence, sheathed; sheath 0. 5-1 cm long, obliquely truncate at orifice. Inflorescence paniculate, with 3 or 4 spikes; terminal spike staminate, linear-cylindrical, 1. 5-4 cm long, ca. 3 mm wide, sessile; lateral spikes pistillate, cylindrical, 1-2 cm long, ca. 7 mm wide, loosely 5-8- flowered, sessile. Staminate scales oblong-lanceolate or lanceolate, pale green, ca. 6.5 mm long, green 3-veined costa on dorsal surface. Pistillate scales ovate, pale green, 5-6 mm long, acuminate at apex, green 3-veined costa excurrent into a short awn. Perigynia ovoid (excluding beak), 7-8 mm long, longer than pistillate scales (including beak) , obliquely patent, obtusely trigonous, papery, yellowish green, distinctly veined, sparsely pubescent or subglabrous, gradually contracted into a ca. 2 cm long beak; orifice 2-lobed with teeth. Stigmas 3; style thicken at base. Achenes tightly enveloped, rhombic-ovoid, trigonous, ca. 5. 5 mm long (including beak), castaneous, with 3 angles constricted at middle, sides concave above and below, abruptly contracted into a ca. 2 mm long beak at apex, beak erect, annulate at orifice.
