Description Herbs perennial. Rhizome short, ligneous. Culms lateral, 30-70 cm. tall, trigonous, covered with dark brown sheaths at base. Leaves longer than culms; leaf- blade brownish yellow, flat, leathery, 6-8 mm wide, acuminate at apex, scabrous on upper margins. Involucral bracts shortly leaf-like, shorter than inflorescence, sheathed; sheaths 1-2 cm long, obliquely truncate at orifice. Inflorescence paniculate, with 4 or 5 spikes; terminal spike staminate, linear-cylindrical, 4-7. 5 cm long, ca. 2.5 mm wide, with a long peduncle at base; lateral spikes androgynous, cylindrical, 5-7. 5 cm long, 8- 9 mm wide, densely flowered, bearing a 2-3.5 cm long staminate part at apex» pedunculate; peduncles exserted from sheaths. Staminate scales lanceolate, pale brown, 6. 5-7 mm long, acuminate at apex, brown l-veined costa on dorsal surface. Pistillate scales narrowly ovate, pale brown, 5-5. 5 mm long, acuminate at apex, green 3-veined costa excurrent into a short awn.
