Leaves shorter than culms; leaf-blade green or glaucous, flat, slightly revolute, leathery, 3. 5-7 mm wide, acuminate at apex, scabrous on upper margins. Involucral bracts leaf-like, shorter than inflorescence, sheathed; sheaths 2-3 cm long, obliquely truncate at orifice. Inflorescence paniculate, with 2, rarely 3 spikes; terminal spike staminate» cylindrical, 2. 5-5 cm long, ca. 5 mm wide, with a very long peduncle at base; lateral spikes pistillate, cylindrical, 2-6 cm long, 9-10 mm wide, densely flowered, bearing a few staminate flowers at apex, pedunculate; peduncles exserted from sheaths. Staminate scales oblanceolate, yellowish green, 9-10 mm long, acuminate at apex, green 1-veined costa excurrent into a short awn.
