Description Herbs perennial. Rhizome short, ligneous, thick. Culms lateral, 30-80 cm tall, obtusely trigonous, covered with dark brown fibrous sheaths at base. Leaves longer than culms; leaf-blade pale green or yellowish green, flat, revolute, leathery, 1. 5-4. 5 mm wide, acuminate at apex, scabrous on margins. Involucral bracts shortly leaf-like, shorter than inflorescence, sheathed; sheaths 1. 5-2. 5 cm long, obliquely truncate at orifice. Inflorescence paniculate, with 3 or 4 spikes; terminal spike staminate, clavate or clavate-cylindrical, 3. 5-4. 5 cm long, 4-5 mm wide, with a long peduncle at base; lateral spikes androgynous, branched, cylindrical, 3-5 cm long, 10-13 mm wide, densely or slightly densely flowered, bearing a 1. 5-2 cm long staminate part at apex, pedunculate; peduncles exserted from sheaths, or enclosed; branched spikes with a 6-7 staminate part arising from each pistillate flower. Staminate scales oblong-lanceolate, brownish red, 7-8 mm long, acuminate at apex, brown l-veined costa on dorsal surface.
