Description Rhizome short. Culms tufted, 35-45 cm tall, slender, triquetrous, hispid, clothed with brownish and bladeless sheaths at base. Leaves shorter than culm, blades 2-3 mm wide, flat, hispid on both surfaces, long sheathed, sheaths hispid. Involucral bracts leaflike, shorter than inflorescence, hispid, lowermost involucral bract long sheathed, upper ones nearly not sheathed. Spikes usually 4; terminal 2 spikes male, approximate, cylindric, 2-4 cm; remaining spikes female, slightly remote, oblong-cylindric, 2-2.8 cm, densely many flowered, uppermost one subsessile, lower spikes shortly pedunculate, usually clothed in involucral bract sheaths. Female glumes brownish, ovate, ca. 4 mm, membranous, glabrous, midrib green, margins hyaline, apex acute, shortly aristate. Utricles yellowish green, suberect, longer than glume, elliptic, obtusely trigonous, 4-5.6 mm, membranous, hispid, several veined, base cuneate, very shortly stipitate, apex gradually narrowed to a rather long beak, orifice deeply split into 2 teeth, teeth slightly recurved.
