Description Herbs perennial. Rhizome short, ligneous, thick. Culms lateral, 30-50 cm tall, trigonous, covered with pale brown to dark brown sheaths at base. Leaves longer than culms; leaf-blade brownish green, flat, leathery, 7-10(-18) mm wide, acuminate at apex» scabrous on margins. Involucral bracts shortly leaf-like, shorter than inflorescence, sheathed; sheaths 1.5-5.5 cm long, obliquely truncate at orifice. Inflorescence paniculate, with 3 or 4 spikes; terminal spike staminate, clavate- cylindrical, 1. 5-4 cm long, ca. 2.5 mm wide, with a long peduncle at base; lateral spikes pistillate, cylindrical, 3-6 cm long, ca. 8 mm wide, loosely flowered, bearing a few staminate flowers at apex,» pedunculate; peduncles exserted from sheaths. Staminate scales oblanceolate, pale brown, 7-8 mm long, acuminate at apex, brown 1- veined costa on dorsal surface. Pistillate scales lanceolate-ovate, pale yellow, 4-5 mm long, acuminate at apex, green 3-veined costa on dorsal surface. Perigynia broadly ovoid or ovoid (excluding beak), 5.5-6 mm long, longer than pistillate scales (including beak) , horizontally patent at maturity, obtusely trigonous, papery, yellowish brown or
brownish olivaceous, distinctly veined, sparsely pubescent on upper veins, gradually contracted into a ca. 2 mm long beak; orifice 2-lobed with teeth. Stigmas 3; style thicken at base. Achenes tightly enveloped, rhombic-ovoid, trigonous, 2-2. 5 mm long (including beak), yellowish brown or castaneous, with 3 angles constricted at middle, sides concave above and below, shortly curved, stipitate at base, abruptly contracted into a short beak at apex, beak coiled.
