Description Perennials. caespitose, with short rhizomes. Stems 10-30 cm tall, obtusely trigonous, smooth. Leaves longer than stem, blades 1-2 mm wide, flat. Basal sheaths brown, shiny. Involucral bracts setaceous, shorter than inflorescence, with short sheath. Inflorescences spikes 3-4; terminal spike male, linear, 1-1.5 cm long, with short peduncle, higher than lateral spike; lateral spikes female, cylindric, 5-15 mm long, slightly densely flowered. Staminate scales pale brown, narrowly obovate, apex obtuse. Pistillate scales brownish white, obovate, apex acute. Perigynia pale yellowish green, slightly longer than or nearly equalling pistillate scale, elliptic, 2.5-2.8 mm long, membranous, glabrous or sparsely puberulent, 8-10-veined, with short beak; mouth slightly notched or truncate.
