Description Perennials. rhizomes short, without stolons. Stems 30–70 cm tall, densely caespitose, smooth, trigonous. Leaves slightly longer than stems, flat, 3–6 mm wide, scabrous on margins. Basal sheaths dark brown, fibrillose. Involucral bracts leaflike, with long sheaths, upper bracts setaceous. Inflorescences terminal spikes male or gynecandrous, linear-clavate, 2–5 cm long; lateral spikes female rarely gynecandrous, linear-cylindrical, 2–5 cm long, densely flowered. Staminate scales brown, midrib light green, apex obtuse. Pistillate scales pale green, midrib light green, apex acuminate or aristate. Perigynia longer than pistillate scales, oblong-ovate, ca. 7 mm long, 5-veined, glabrous, apex gradually narrowed into a long beak, scabrous on margins of upper part and beak, mouth shallowly 2-toothed. Description 다년생. 근경은 짧고, 포복지가 없다. 줄기 높이 30–70 cm, 조밀하게 모여나고, 매끈하며, 단면은 삼릉형이다. 잎 줄기보다 길이가 약간 길고, 단면은 편평하며, 너비 3–6mm, 가장자리는 깔깔하다. 기부의 엽초 어두운 갈색이고, 섬유모양으로 세열한다. 포엽 엽신은 잎 모양으로 긴 엽초가 있으나 위쪽의 것은 긴 가시모양이다. 화서 정소수는 웅성 또는 자웅성으로 곤봉상 선형이고, 길이 2–5cm이다. 측소수는 자성으로 드물게 자웅성이고, 선상 원주형이며, 길이 2–5cm로 많은 꽃이 조밀하게 달린다. 웅인편 갈색이고, 중륵은 밝은 녹색이며, 둔두이다. 자인편 옅은 녹색으로 중륵은 밝은 녹색이고, 점첨두이거나 까락이 있다. 과포 자인편보다 길이가 길고, 장타원상 난형이며, 길이는 약 7mm이다. 5맥이 있고, 무모이다. 상ㅇ부는 서서히 줄어들어 긴 부리로 되고, 부리 윗부분과 가장자리가 깔깔하며, 구부는 얕은 가위모양이다. 수과 조밀하게 과포에 들어있고, 타원형이며, 길이 약 2mm, 단면은 삼릉형이다. 주두 3개로 갈라진다.
