Description Herbs perennial. Rhizome short, ligneous. Culms central, 30-65 cm tall, trigonous, covered with brown fibrous sheaths at base. Leaves longer than culms; leaf- blade glaucous to green, flat, revolute, leathery, 4-11 mm wide, acuminate at apex, scabrous on upper margins. Involucral bracts shortly leaf-like or leaf-like, shorter than inflorescences sheathed; sheaths 1.5-3 cm long, obliquely truncate at orifice. Inflorescence paniculate, with 4 or 5 spikes; terminal spike staminate» clavate» 1-3. 5 em long, ca. 3 mm wide, with a long peduncle at base; lateral spikes pistillate, cylindrical, 2. 5-7 cm long, 6-8 mm wide, densely flowered, bearing a few staminate flowers at apex, pedunculate; peduncles slightly exserted from sheaths. Staminate scales elliptic-lanceolate, pale green, 10-12 mm long, acuminate at apex, green 1-veined costa excurrent into a 3. 5-4 mm long scabrous awn. Pistillate scales narrowly ovate, pale green, 8-9 mm long (including awn), acuminate at apex, green 3-veined costa excurrent into a ca. 3.5 mm long scabrous awn.
