Description Herbs, perennial, loosely caespitose. Rhizome 0.5–2 cm long. Culm 23–30 cm long, erect, trigonous, smooth. Leaves basal, 10–35 cm long, 2–4 mm broad, light green, basal part of sheath pale brown or partly reddish purple. Bracts leaf-like, ca. twice as long as spikes, long sheathed. Spikes 3 or 4; terminal spike staminate, clavate, 1.5–2 cm long, 12–25-flowered, long-pedunculate, erect; staminate scales obovate, 4–5 mm long, acute, pale brown or partly reddish purple, midrib green; lateral spikes pistillate, linear, 1.5–3 cm long, loosely 3–6-flowered, long-pedunculate, drooping; pistillate scales ovate, 3–4 mm long, acute at apex, reddish purple, midrib green. Perigynia obtusely trigonous, 5.6–7.1 mm long, 1.5–2 mm broad, membranaceous, smooth, several-veined, long-beaked, abruptly narrowed to apex; beak 2.8–4 mm long.
