Leaves basal, 10–35 cm long, 2–4 mm broad, light green, basal part of sheath pale brown or partly reddish purple. Bracts leaf-like, ca. twice as long as spikes, long sheathed. Spikes 3 or 4; terminal spike staminate, clavate, 1.5–2 cm long, 12–25-flowered, long-pedunculate, erect; staminate scales obovate, 4–5 mm long, acute, pale brown or partly reddish purple, midrib green; lateral spikes pistillate, linear, 1.5–3 cm long, loosely 3–6-flowered, long-pedunculate, drooping; pistillate scales ovate, 3–4 mm long, acute at apex, reddish purple, midrib green. Perigynia obtusely trigonous, 5.6–7.1 mm long, 1.5–2 mm broad, membranaceous, smooth, several-veined, long-beaked, abruptly narrowed to apex; beak 2.8–4 mm long.
