Description Herbs, perennial, caespitose. Rhizome 2–5 mm long. Culm 10–23 cm long, erect, trigonous, smooth. Leaves basal, 10–20 cm long, 2.6–5 mm broad, shorter than or as long as culm, light green, basal part of sheath pale brown or partly reddish purple. Bracts leaf-like, ca. twice as long as spikes, long sheathed. Spikes 2 or 3; terminal spike staminate, linear, 3–5 mm long, 4–7-flowered, shortly pedunculate, erect; staminate scalesobovate, 3.5–4.5 mm long, acute, pale brown or partly reddish purple, midrib green; lateral spikes pistillate, ellipsoid to shortly cylindrical, 5–10 mm long, 2–4-flowered, long-pedunculate, drooping; pistillate scales ovate, 2.5–4 mm long, acute at apex, reddish purple, midrib green. Perigynia obtusely trigonous, 3.2–4.2 mm long, 1.2–1.5 mm broad, membranaceous, smooth, several-veined; beak of perigynia short, curved, abruptly narrowed to apex; beak 1.3–1.7 mm long.
