Description Rhizomes short, woody. Culms caespitose, 30–40 cm tall, slender, trigonous, smooth or scabrous, base with brown fibrous sheaths. Leaves shorter than culms; blade 1.5–2.5 mm wide, flat, soft. Lower bracts leaf-like, longer than inflorescence, sheathless, upper ones setaceous or scale-like. Spikes 4–8, gynaecandrous, ovoid or oblong-ovoid, 6–8 mm long, sessile. Pistillate scales ovate, pale yellow or glaucous, 2.2–2.3 mm long, apex acute, with green 3-veined costa. Perigynia ovoid, plano-convex, yellowish green, slightly longer than pistillate scales, 2.5–2.7 mm long, membranous, glabrous, narrowly winged and serrulate on upper margins, veinless, base shortly stipitate, apex gradually contracted into a ca. 0.8 mm long beak, beak margins scabrous, orifice 2-lobed with short teeth. Achenes loosely enveloped, ovoid, plano-convex, pale yellow, ca. 1.5 mm long, base shortly stipitate; style thickened at base; stigmas 2. [details]

Comparison Carex remota subsp. stewartii differs from the typical subspecies in having perigynia 2.5–2.7 mm long, ovoid, veinless both abaxially and adaxially. In Carex remota subsp. remota, the perigynia are ca. 3 mm long, lanceolate-ovoid, abaxially 3–5 veined, adaxially veinless. Carex remota subsp. remota mainly distributes in N Africa, Europe to Iran and Lebanon. [details]Description Rhizomes short, woody.
