Original description Spicis foemineis maturis 4 cm longis 6 mm latis, densis, cylindricis, stramineis; glumis foemineis (aristâ longâ hispidâ sub-alopecuroideâ inclusâ) utriculos superantibus; utriculis 2-2 1/2 mm longis, lata ovoideis, inflatis, stramineo-luteis ; ceteroquin ut C. utriculata Boott. Exemplum unicum inscriptum "C. ampullacea, Gooden. Dr. B[oott] autem dixerat squamae inferiores nunquam aristatae." Utriculi perparvae, glumarum aristae paullo dilatatae, undique densius hispidae [details]Translation Mature female spikes 4 cm long, 6 mm wide, dense, cylindrical, stramineous; female glumes (with a long hispid awn, like a foxtail) exceeding the perigynia; perigynia 2-2 1/2 mm long, broadly ovoid, inflated, yellow-stramineous; otherwise as C. utriculata
Boott. A single specimen bearing the inscription "C. ampullacea, Gooden. but Dr. B[oott] says squamae inferiores nunquam aristatae [lower scales never aristate]". Utricles very small, awns of the pistillate scales slightly widened at their base, densely hispid all over. [details]
