Spikelet broadly ovoid to oblong, 3-8 × 3-4 mm, few flowered to not more than 10-flowered. Basalmost glume empty, amplexicaul for 1/2 or more of spikelet base; fertile glumes purplish brown, slightly laxly imbricate, ovate to broadly ovate, ca. 3.5 × 2 mm, margin hyaline, apex acuminate. Perianth bristles 4, shorter than nutlet, retrorsely spinulose. Stigmas 2. Nutlet yellowish brown, obovoid, ca. 1.5 × 1.4 mm, biconvex, smooth; persistent style base white basally and dark brown at apex, shortly conic, 1/4-1/3 as long and 1/3-1/2 as wide as nutlet, spongy, apex obtuse to nearly half-oblong.  [details]
