Description Culms terete, glabrous, 5–30 cm high, 0.25–0.3 mm diam. Leaves much shorter than culms, glabrous (except for long white hairs at mouth of sheaths), 0.2–0.3 mm wide. Inflorescence head-like, hemispherical, with 3–20 spikelets, 5–15 mm diam., or rarely a solitary spikelet; involucral bracts 1–3, somewhat shorter than inflorescence, 5–20 mm long. Spikelets ovoid to oblong, acute, 3–8 mm long, 1–1.5 mm diam. Glumes mucronulate (mucro finally excurved), strongly keeled, 1.5–2.3 mm long, glabrous or only minutely pubescent or ciliate on margins, pale to red-brown with green midrib. Stamen 1; anther 0.5–0.7 mm long. Style 3-fid. Nut triquetrous, broad-ovoid, 0.5–0.8 mm long, 0.4–0.6 mm diam., smooth, finely reticulate by the minute isodiametric epidermal cells, whitish to straw-coloured. [details]
