Description Densely tufted; culms numerous, low (subspithamsei), leafy, smooth, with leaves longitudinally striate; leaves narrow, often undulate-recurved, somewhat rough; staminate (male) spike solitary, with scales obscurely three-nerved on the back, pale or the lower ones tricolored; pistillate (female) spikes 3–4, oblong, pedicellate, with scales green on the back, mucronate at the tip, or in each spike the lower ones membranaceous and obtuse at the tip; perigynia (hardly mature) green, glabrous, with two prominent extramarginal nerves, the others mostly obsolete, narrowed into a short beak, at the apex split into two sharp diverging teeth; bracts of the lower spikes leaf-like, elongated, exceeding the male spike. [details]
