Description Perennials. densely caespitose. Stems erect, acutely trigonous, 20-70 cm tall, scabrous above. Leaves shorter than or subequaling stem, blades 2-4 mm wide, flat, soft, margins serrulate. Basal sheaths light brown. Involucral bracts scalelike. Inflorescence: spicate inflorescence 2.5-6 cm long. Spikes 10-17(-20), gynaeandrous, light green, ovate, 5-10 mm long, 4-6 mm wide, densely flowered, upper spikes contiguous, lower ones distant. Staminate scales dark chestnut to chestnut, apex acute. Pistillate scales pale brown, 2.2-2.8 mm long, apex acute. Perigynia longer than pistillate scale, ovate or ovate-lanceolate, plano-convex, 3.4-3.7 mm long, 5-7-veined abaxially, 4-5-veined adaxially, base rounded, margins very narrowly scabrous winged, apex gradually narrowed into a long beak, mouth 2-toothed.
