Leaves shorter to longer than culms; leaf-blade brownish green, flat, leathery, 3-10 mm wide, acuminate at apex, margins scabrous, revolute. Involucral bracts shortly leaf-like, shorter than inflorescence, sheathed; sheaths 1-5 cm long, obliquely truncate at orifice. Inflorescence paniculate, with 4 to many spikes» rarely 2 or 3; terminal spike staminate» clavate, 3-6 cm long, ca. 5 mm wide, with a long peduncle at base; lateral spikes androgynous, single to ternate at each node, cylindrical, 2-6 cm long, 7-12 mm wide, densely flowered, bearing a 1. 5-3 cm long staminate part at apex, pedunculate; peduncles exserted from sheaths.
