Translation A two-footed culm, slender, and scabrous above. Leaves 1-2 lines wide, with a scabrous edge and keel, shorter than the stem, with lower sheaths bursting into reticulated threads. The bract is narrowly leaf-like, serrate-scabrous; the lower spike is rounded-auriculate and longer than its stem, infrequently subequal to the stem; the upper one is setaceous and auriculate-dilated. Male spikes 1-2, terminal, 1-13 inches. It has a wide, pedicellate line; the lower one is shorter and sessile, with obtuse rust-colored scales. Female spikes 1-23 inches long, 2 lines wide, the upper one always sessile and androgynous, with the top more than half masculine; the second is subsessile and androgynous; the lower is longer, shortly pedicellate, with a laxiflora base entirely feminine or with a few male florets at the top. The scales are bright rust-colored, with a green nerve, and a membranous edge, the lower ones lanceolate and acute, the upper ones linear and obtuse, usually longer and narrower than the perigynia. Stigmas 2, short.A plant 13-13 lines long, 2 lines wide, green or glaucous, weak, with 2-4 nerves on each side, with a finely punctuated edge, either whole or slightly notched, rarely with 2-3 spiny saws.
