Description Perennial. caespitose, plants wholly ferruginous punctulate. Stems 20-60 cm tall, flattened, smooth. Leaves shorter or longer than stems, 2-3 mm wide, scabrous. Basal sheaths pinkish ferruginous. Involucral bracts lower involucral bracts leaflike, much surpassing inflorescence, sheathless, upper ones setaceous. Inflorescences spicate inflorescence, 15-25 spikes, dense, pyramidal-cylindric, 2.5-8 cm long. Spikes androgynous, ovate, 5-8 mm long. Staminate scales pale green, apex acute, awned. Pistillate scales pale green, ovate, 2-4 mm long, apex acute, awned. Perigynia longer than pistillate scales, ovate, plano-convex, 2.5-4 mm long, many veined on both faces, ferruginous puncticulate above, margins from middle to apex with broad wings, apex gradually contracted into a beak, mouth bidentate.
