Description Herbs perennial. Rhizome short, ligneous, thick. Culms lateral, 20-65 cm tall, trigonous, covered with dark brown fibrous sheaths at base. Leaves longer than or equal to culms; leaf-blade brownish green, flat, leathery, 6.5-18 mm wide» acuminate at apex» scabrous on margins. Involucral bracts shortly leaf-like, shorter than inflorescence, sheathed; sheaths 0.5-1.5 cm long, obliquely truncate at orifice. Inflorescence paniculate, with 2-4 spikes; terminal spike staminate, clavate, 1-4 cm long, 2-4 mm wide, with a long peduncle at base; lateral spikes pistillate, cylindrical, 2-5 cm long, 8-10 mm wide, densely flowered, bearing a few staminate flowers at apex, pedunculate; peduncles slightly exserted from sheaths, or enclosed. Staminate scales oblanceolate, reddish brown, 6-7 mm long (including awn), emarginate at apex, green 3-veined costa excurrent into a short awn. Pistillate scales narrowly ovate, pale green, 5-6. 5 mm long, acuminate at apex, green 3-veined costa excurrent into a 1-2 mm long awn.
