Description Herbs perennial. Rhizome long, ligneous, thick, stoloniferous. Culms lateral, 20-40 cm tall, trigonous, covered with brown sheaths at base. Leaves shorter than or equal to culms; leaf-blade green, flat, revolute, leathery, 4-8 mm wide, acuminate at apex, scabrous on margins. Involucral bracts shortly leaf-like, shorter than inflorescence, sheathed; sheaths 1-1. 5 cm long, obliquely truncate at orifice. Inflorescence paniculate, with 2 or 3 spikes; terminal spike staminate, clavate, 2-3 cm long, 3-4 mm wide, with a long peduncle at base; lateral spikes pistillate, cylindrical, 1. 5-2 cm long, 5-6 mm wide, 5-7-flowered; peduncles slightly exserted from sheaths, or enclosed. Staminate scales narrowly obovate, brown, ca. 8. 5 mm long (including awn), emarginate at apex, green l-veined costa excurrent into a short awn. Pistillate scales ovate, pale green, 6-7 mm long (including awn), emarginate at apex, green 3-veined costa excurrent into a short scabrous awn.
