Leaves basal, 10–35 cm long, 3–10 mm broad, shorter than culm, light green, basal part of sheath pale brown. Bracts leaf-like, longer than spikes, long sheathed. Spikes 3(or 4). Terminal spike staminate, linear, 5–8 mm long, 1–1.5 mm broad, 4–8 flowered, short pedunculate, erect; staminate scales obovate, 3–4 mm long, acute, pale green, midrib green. Lateral spikes pisti late, ellipsoid to short cylindrical, 5–10 mm long, 5 mm broad, 2–4 flowered, short- or long-pedunculate, slightly drooping, (3.6–)6.1–14.3(–17.5) cm distance between uppermost and second uppermost pistillate spikes; pistillate scales obovate, 2–3(–3.5) mm long, acute, pale green, midrib green.
