Basal sheaths rusty brown. Involucral bracts spathaceous, usually bladeless. Inflorescences terminal spikes staminate, 0.5–1.8 cm long; lateral spikes androgynous, 0.5–1 cm long, pedunculate, 1 spike at each node, staminate parts short, pistillate loosely 2–5 flowered. Staminate scales pale, margins shortly haired, apex acute. Pistillate scales pale, margins shortly haired, apex acute. Perigynia as long as pistillate scales, obovoid, 2.5–3 mm long, 1.2–1.5 mm wide, finely 5–8 veined, densely pubescent, scabrous, beak extremely short, mouth truncate.
