Translation Cespitose or shortly rhizomatous. Stems very thin, erect and straight, acutely triangular, scaberulous, less than a foot long, covered at their base by foliose scales with a short dark purple base; leaves flat, linear, pale green, subequal to the stem; spikes 3-5, oblong, narrowed on both sides, terminal staminate spikes 1-2, rarely 3, the terminal cylindrical, dark brown, the lateral ones very small, female spikes 2, rarely 3, with few flowers, spreading, gray-brown, borne on short, erect peduncles; foliose bracts narrowly linear, about as long as the stem or much shorter, with clasping or very shortly sheathing auriculate bases; perigynia densely veined, narrowly ovate-conical, gradually narrowed into a bidentate beak, teeth with reddish margins, pistillate scales lanceolate-subulate, white with brown margins, equaling the perigynia.
