The stems are erect, somewhat rigid, slender, 10 - 35 cm long, somewhat quadrangular, finely striated, smooth or slightly scabrous at one angle above, glaucous or dry straw-colored and brown-spotted, sheathed at the base. Sheaths 1 - 3, up to 5.5 cm long, quadrangular, tight, pale, with a truncated mouth and lower part briefly pointed, the top extending into an awn-like blade up to 15 mm long, with scabrous edges, strictly erect or entirely produced into a flexed form. Spikelets narrowly ovoid, about 4 - 6 mm long. Scales ovate-lanceolate, apex somewhat rounded, golden-brown, often with a hyaline margin, inner ones paler, apex somewhat rounded or very slightly tapered, with a nerve extending into a short mucro. Young nut obovate, subtriangular, tapered at the short beak; The style is about 1.5 times longer, with 3 stigmas, 2.5 mm long, pale yellow, papillose.
