Description Tuft-forming perennial. Culms more or less compressed, glabrous, smooth, 1-noded, to 60 cm long, 1.5–2.5 mm diam. Leaves rigid, flattened above, channelled to triangular below, often twisted, shorter than to exceeding culm; sheaths pale yellow-brown to dark red-brown, fibrous remains persistent. Inflorescence to 80 cm long, to twice as long as culm. Spikelets c. 15 mm long. Glumes 3 or 4, lowest glume shorter than upper fertile glumes, yellow-brown to dark red-brown, glabrous, long-acute to mucronate, upper fertile glumes 14–15 mm long. Hypogynous bristles c. half length of body of nut. Anthers 6–8 mm long, with apical appendage 0.2–0.3 mm long. Nut narrow-oblong, pale brown, often scabrous on margins, body c. 7 mm long, style base c. 8 mm long. [details]
