Description Annual herb, caespitose, 3.6– 38.4 cm tall, lacking rhizome; roots 0.7– 1 mm wide. Leaves rosette-like, 16 basal and 1– 2 cauline, erect to ascendent, 4– 21.1 × 0.05– 0.11 (– 0.15) cm; sheaths eligulate, papery with membranous margins, glabrous, light green or vinaceous, apex truncate; blades linear, flattened or V shaped, papery, light green, margins scabrous toward the apex, apex subulate, abaxial side closely veined, midvein scabrous toward the apex, adaxial side cellular-reticulate, midvein unarmed. Stems erect, 0.2– 0.5 mm wide, triangular to quadrangular in cross section, glabrous, angles unarmed, light green, sometimes clavate at the apex. involucral bracts 2– 4, 0.2– 2 (– 3.1) cm long, narrowly triangular to lanceolate, leaflike, the lowest often exceeding the inflorescence, margins basally ciliate, scabrous toward the apex, trichomes 0.4– 1.3 mm long, apex subulate. Inflorescence terminal, fasciculate, semi-hemispherical, headlike, 6– 8 × (2.5–)4– 15 mm, with 1– 14 spikelets; spikelets narrowly ellipsoid, subsessile, stalk 0.2– 1mm long, 4– 6.1 (– 8) × 1– 2 mm, glumes (8–)10– 12 per spikelet, base acute to cuneate, apex cuneate; proximal sterile glumes 2– 4, narrowly ovate, 0.9– 2.5 (– 3) × 0.5– 3 mm, papery with membranous margins, light brown to yellowish-brown, sometimes vinaceous at apex, glabrous, glossy, base truncate, apex navicular; medial fertile glumes 2, narrowly ovate, 3.2– 6 × 2.3 2.7 mm, papery with membranous margins, yellowish brown to vinaceous at the apex, glabrous, glossy, base truncate, apex navicular; distal fertile glumes 5– 7, narrowly triangular to lanceolate, rarely oblong, 4.1 -4.6 × 0.5– 1 mm, totally membranous to papery with membranousmargins,yellowish-browntohyaline,sometimes vinaceous at the apex, glabrous, glossy, base truncate, apex straight; midvein of all glumes inconspicuous, thin, light brown to greenish, glabrous, ending with the glume apex. Male flowers 4– 8; stamens 3, anthers 1.8– 3 mm long, base cuneate, apex rounded, mucronate; filaments connate at base and free at apex. Bisexual flowers 1– 2; stamens 2; style undivided or shortly bifidatapex.Perianth bristles 6, filiform, 2.4– 5.3 mm long, beige to light orange, plumose at base to 1=3– ½ long, with hyaline to yellowish trichomes, distally scabridulous, exceeding the nutlet, or occasionally the style-base. Nutlets 2-sided, oblanceoloid to ovoid, 2.5– 3.2 ×0.7–1.4mm(withoutthestyle-base), marginsinvolute, claw-like with lamellar lobes, adaxial surface papillose, abaxial surface often smooth, rarely with few papillae at the apex, totally yellowish to brown with light brown margins, base acute, apex slightly concave.
