Description Plants 30– 60cmtall, caespitose with knotted rhizomes, the knots (8–)10– 15 mm wide. Culms 1– 1.3 mm wide, trigonous, glabrous. Leaves 4– 6, basal; sheaths 2– 4 cm long, glabrous; blades (15–)20– 35 cm × (1.2–) 1.5– 2.5 mm, ½ the height of the culm or slightly longer, linear-lanceolate, symmetrical, conduplicate, glabrous, the margins scabrous. Inflorescence capitate, subtended by 3 (4) involucral bracts; involucral bracts foliar, basally white and ovate, distally green and linear-lanceolate, flat, hartaceous, the apex acuminate; basal bract (4–) 7– 11.7 cm long, the white portion 0.4– 0.7 cm × 4– 8 mm, the green portion (4–)7– 11 cm × 1– 2 mm, margins scabrous or hairy; second bract (2.5–)4– 8.5 cm long. Capitula 7–10 ×10–15mm,globose. Spikelets 30– 70 with 45.5 × 1– 1.6 mm, ovate-lanceolate, the basal 3 glumes empty, followed by a single scale subtending a perfect flower and 5– 7 distal glumes subtending staminate flowers; distal empty scale 1.5– 2.5 × 0.6– 1mm, lanceolate, off-white, glabrous, the apex acute; scale of the perfect flower 3– 4 × 1.5– 2.2 mm, ovatelanceolate, white to pale- like, sometimes castaneous at the base, chartaceous, scabrous, the apex acute; glumes of staminate flowers stramineous, the basal one chartaceous, the others membranous. Perianth bristles absent. Anthers 2, 1.5 mm long.
