Description Densamente cespitosa. Tallos fértiles de (35)40-70(90) cm. Hojas de 0,5-2 mm de anchura, de canaliculadas a enrolladas, raramente planas, más cortas que los tallos. Bráctea inferior más corta que la inflorescencia. Inflorescencia formada por 3-5 panículas oblongas de espiguillas,las panículas superiores agrupadas y las inferiores separadas; espiguillas de (4)4,3-5,1(5,5) mm de longitud, fusiformes, no o escasamente comprimidas. Glumas ovadas, de ápice mucronado o acuminado, más raramente agudo, de color pardo-rojizo claro u oscuro, a veces negruzcas, las inferiores estériles, las superiores con una flor hermafrodita en la axila. Cerdas periánticas (0)1-3(5), más cortas que el aquenio, a veces alguna rudimentaria, con acúleos dirigidos hacia delante. 1-3 estambres. 2 estigmas. Aquenios de 1,7-2 mm de longitud, de contorno obovado o elíptico, con finas arrugas transversales evidentes, de color que oscila entre crema y pardo oscuro; base del estilo de 0,6-0,8 mm, de contorno deltoideo y ápice obtuso, de bordes irregularmente denticulados. 2n=84. [details]

Translation Densely tufted. Fertile stems of (35)40-70(90) cm. Leaves 0.5-2 mm wide, channelled to rolled, rarely flat, shorter than the stems. The lower bract is shorter than the inflorescence. Inflorescence formed by 3-5 oblong panicles of spikelets, with the upper panicles clustered and the lower ones separated; spikelets (4)4.3-5.1(5.5) mm long, fusiform, not or slightly compressed. Glumes ovate, with mucronate or acuminate apex, less often acute, light or dark reddish-brown in color, sometimes blackish, with the lower glumes being sterile and the upper ones having a hermaphrodite flower in the axil. Perianth bristles (0)1-3(5), shorter than the achene, sometimes with some rudimentary, with prickles directed forward. 1-3 stamens. 2 stigmas. Nutlets measuring 1.7-2 mm in length, with an obovate or elliptical outline, featuring fine evident transverse wrinkles, with a color that ranges from cream to dark brown; the base of the style measuring 0.6-0.8 mm, with a deltoid outline and blunt apex, with irregularly denticulate edges. 2n=84. [details]
