Translation Monoicus. A short rhizome, erect-ascending, somewhat thick, covered with brown and white hairs, densely clad in dead sheaths. The radical and upper leaves are often only stem leaves; the blades are narrow, linear, 25-45 cm long, 1.3-1.8 mm wide, glabrous, perrigid, folded-involute, more or less triangular at the upper part, with a sharp apex; the sheaths are brown or brown-red, slightly expanded; contra-ligules are round-deltate, 0.5-1 mm long, brown and ciliate. The inflorescence is 15-20 cm long, constructed in very remote fascicles of 5(-6); the partial fascicles are umbelliform, with 9-15 spikelets, the lower 3 male, the upper 2 or 3 female with 2-4 spikelets; the rays are filiform, generally puberulous, 0.7—2.5 cm long, ending in a single pendulous spikelet. The spikelets are oblong or narrowly ovoid, approximately 2-3 mm long and about 1 mm wide, with a few or many flowers in a rusty-brown color; the glumes are narrowly ovoid, ciliate at the upper margin, with a pointed peak and short awns; resistance up to 6.The spikelets are elongated or narrowly ovate, about 2-3 mm long and approximately 1 mm wide, with a few or many reddish-brown flowers; the glumes are narrowly ovate, ciliate on the upper margin, with acute, short awns; resistance up to 6. The female spikelets are ovoid-globose, 44.5 mm long, and 2.7-3.5 mm in diameter, reddish-brown or cinnamon; the glumes are 4-5, papery, imbricate, the lower ones transverse, oval late, the upper oval late, 3.5 mm long, 2.5-2.7 mm wide, greatly boat-shaped, back multinerved, densely pubescent, tapering to a short acuminate point. The fruits are enclosed under tightly in trumpet-ovate late glumes, truly triangular, 3.8-4.2 mm long and 2.8-3 mm wide at the angles, with a densely tomentose-pubescent apex, cuneate-contracted with an irregularly narrow face, a style 0.8 mm long, with 3 stigmas, brownish-papulose. The hypogynous scales are depressed, round-deltate, ciliate with silky hairs 1/2 mm long. [details]
