Description  A compact, rather robust, monoecious, tufted perennial sedge. Roots not seen. Base of plant 0"3-0-4 cm wide, slightly swollen by the somewhat fibrous, dark brown remains of leaf sheaths. Culms stiffly erect, 20-30 cm x 0 5-0 7 mm, rounded, smooth, green. Leaves basal; leaf-blade linear, stiffly erect, 11-17
cm x 0-5-0-7 mm, very gradually narrowed, acuminate, inrolled, greyish green; leaf sheaths open, margins partially inrolled, 3-5 cm x 1 2-2 - 5 mm, dark brown. Inflorescence paniculate, comprising 3-4 partial inflorescences, each subtended by a bract; bracts leaf-like, blade linear to setaceous 0-5-4
cm x 0-5-1 mm, green to dark brown, sheath tubular, 0-5-1 cm long, chocolate-brown, the bracts becoming progressively shorter towards apex of inflorescence; partial inflorescences comprising up to 6 peduncles; peduncles mostly erect, each supporting 1 -6 sessile or shortly stalked spikes. Male spikes
elliptic-cylindric, 5-6 x 1 - 1 -5 mm, chocolate-brown, comprising 4-5 lower glumes and 4-5, reduced staminate partial inflorescences; lower glumes ovate lanceolate, 5-5-6 x 1 mm, aristate, coriaceous, chocolate-brown, the uppermost one subtending a single stamen; staminate partial inflorescences comprising 4-8
floral bracts; floral bracts lanceolate, 4-8- 5 -2 x 0- 2-0 -8 mm, acute, the lower ones keeled, membranous, mid-brown, 4-5 of the floral bracts each subtending a single stamen; anthers narrowly oblong, 1 -8 mm long, yellowish, connective 0-2 mm long, reddish brown, fimbriate, filaments 5-6 mm long, dark reddish
brown. Female spikes 6-8 x 1-2 mm, pale brown to chocolate-brown, comprizing 2-3 glume-like bracts and a single reduced, pistillate partial inflorescence; glume-like bracts ovate-lanceolate, 5 - 5 - 8 x 1 - 1 7 mm, aristate, coriaceous, chocolate-brown; pistillate partial inflorescence comprising 5-6 floral bracts and
a terminal gynoecium; floral bracts ovate-lanceolate, 3-8- 6 x 1 -3- 1- 5 mm, aristate, coriaceous, pale brown, the lower ones hardly distinct from the glume like bracts; stigma branches and style not seen. Achene urn-shaped, 2-2 -2 x 1 mm, apiculate; achene surfave mid-brown, foveolate, 3-furrowed. [details]
