Description Robust, rhizomatous herbs; rhizome 12–15 mm in diameter. Cataphylls absent. Culms several, erect, lateral, up to 16 cm long, 2 mm in diameter, cylindrical, glabrous, greenish yellow or pale green. Leaves basal, weakly 3-ranked, up to 115 cm long; leaf-blade linear, 85–100 cm long and 3–3.3 cm wide, apex very gradually narrowed, base gradually narrowed into sheath, coriaceous, green to mid-green, 3-nerved, secondary nerves distinctly light brown on the lower surface, slightly flat or weakly W-shaped in cross section, indistinctly septate-nodulose when dry, margins slightly serrulate, pseudopetiole absent; sheath lanceolate, 7–12.5 cm long and 1.8–2.2 cm wide, apex very gradually narrowed, coriaceous to thickly coriaceous, light green to mid-brown. Involucral bracts 1–5, glumaceous, ovate to lanceolate, 10–30 mm long, 5–6 mm wide; basal bract shorter, obtuse, coriaceous, papery when dried. Inflorescence terminal, composed of 1 spike; spikes globose or subglobose, 12–15 mm long, 5–6 mm in diameter, green to light green; spicoid bracts ovate, 8–10 mm long and 2–3 mm wide, subcoriaceous, green or light green, margins tinged with a thin light brown layer, nerves indistinct; floral bract 6, free, lowest 2 bracts linear to linear-lanceolate, 8–10 mm, flat, glabrous; staminate flowers 3 per spicoid, anthers 7–9 mm, whitish; stigma branches 3, style up to 13 mm long.
