This verified database groups the marine species recorded from Peru.
The Instituto del Mar del Peru - IMARPE, a specialized technical agency of the Ministry of Production, presents the Peruvian Register of Marine Species (PeRMS) platform that compiles the updated list of species inhabiting the jurisdictional waters of the Peruvian sea, verified through bibliographic sources.

PeRMS is a regional sub-register of the World Register of Marine Species (WoRMS), an international scientific database backed by scientific consensus. Biologist José Santamaría, researcher of IMARPE's Biodiversity Functional Area, authorized by WoRMS based on his experience in the field of marine species taxonomy, manages this subregister.

The project is part of the Memorandum of Understanding between IMARPE and the Flanders Marine Institute (VLIZ) of Belgium, which aims to promote cooperation for the development and execution of marine research projects, as well as to facilitate capacity building for research and technological development. In addition, this initiative contributes to the knowledge of the Peruvian sea in the context of the Decade of Ocean Sciences for Sustainable Development (2021-2030).

The portal is freely accessible and is intended to be a source of verified and reliable information for professionals, students and citizens interested in the biodiversity that inhabits the Peruvian sea.
