Chamisso s.n.
BR - National Botanic Garden of Belgium, Domein van Bouchout, B-1860 Meise, Belgium
Chamisso. Kamtschatka.
Extant
Chamisso set foot on Russian soil in Kamtschatka on June 19th 1816 in Saints Peter and Paul [Petropavlovsk-Kamtchatski] in Avacha bay. July 15th their ship was repaired and they left Avacha Bay on July 17th for the Aleoutian islands, never to return to Kamtschatka. C. sordida was never recorded from these islands, so I can confidently say the specimen doesn't come from there. In his log book, he mentions no other localities than Saints Peter and Paul during this period, and mentions his presence in the town on June 22nd, June 23rd, July 4th, July 11th, and July 12th. The longest interval between those dates is 11 days. Thus, Chamisson must not have been more than 5 days away from Peters, without access to a boat. He likely stayed in a 25 km radius of Petropavlovsk-Kamtchatski. (Chamisso's account: https://www.projekt-gutenberg.org/chamisso/weltreis/weltr061.html); of Otto von Kotzebue's account (from p.261): https://www.biodiversitylibrary.org/item/174000#page/83/mode/1up) .
