Bailey was led to believe that the type of Carex lurida Wahl. represented a specimen of Carex lupulina Muhl. ex Willd., and "corrected" the nomenclature by treating Carex lupulina Muhl. ex Willd. as a heterotypic synonym of Carex lurida Wahl and using the name lurida in its place, as Carex lurida predated the publication of the name Carex lupulina by three years. This view proved incorrect. [details]
