Nomenclature note The name Carex longebracteata Hornem. was placed in synonymy with Carex vulpinoidea Michaux by Kenneth Kent Mackenzie, in his Flora North America treatment(1931). However it seems that Mackenzie did not see a type specimen (A.A.Reznicek, pers. comm.).
On the other hand one of the other species that Hornemann includes is C. multiflora (synonym of C. vulpinoidea), and Hornemann places C. multiflora in a different morphologic group from C. longebracteata (R.Naczi, pers. comm.). [details]
