Description Caespitose, phyllopodic perennial graminoid. Sheaths not viscous. Culms terete, robust, 315–610 × 0.6–0.8 mm (Fig. 1B). Leaves basal, channelled just above the sheath and becoming terete, margins serrate above the sheath, apex acuminate, 1–4, 72–115 × 0.3–0.8 mm. Sheaths firm, brown at base with a slight reddish tinge, longitudinally striate at the base. Ligule membranous, 2.2–4.6 mm. Inflorescence a pseudolateral spike-like panicle, elongate, brown when young, dark grey at maturity, 40–47 × 2–6 mm, proximal rachis 10–14 mm long (Fig. 1F). Proximal primary inflorescence bracts firm, enclosing spikelet clusters, channelled, apex acute to acuminate, widened at the base, 61–84 mm long, longitudinal veins pronounced. Primary inflorescence bracts with marginal extensions that abruptly taper into a long tip. Spikes 3–4, 6.5–19 mm long, slightly overlapping. Spikelets narrow-lanceolate, 6.4–7.5 × 0.8–1.1 mm, pedicellate, 2–3 spikelets per spike, light reddish-brown (Fig. 2B). Proximal spikelet prophyll usually 1 per spikelet, usually membranous, with a prominent raised central vein extending to the mucro, 2.0–2.6 mm long; prophyll mucro 0.4–1.4 mm long. Rachilla 1.6–6.2 mm long. Glumes 4–5 per spikelet, with short hairs throughout, without an evident hyaline margin, apex acute to acuminate; proximal glume 3.0–5.4 mm long, subproximal glume 4.9–7.8 mm long. Glume mucros variable in length, proximal mucro 0.2–1.4 mm, subproximal mucro 0–0.3 mm. Flowers and fruits unknown. [details]
