Description Cespitosa, con rizoma ± robusto, a veces con entrenudos algo largos. Tallos (30)50-70(100) cm, obtusamente trígonos, casi lisos o escábridos. Hojas (2)2,5-5,5(5) mm de anchura, de longitud igual o mayor que los tallos, muy ásperas en los bordes, planas; lígula 4-8 mm; de ápice obtuso o agudo; sin antelígula; vainas basales escuamiformes, enteras, de color pardo claro o rojizas. Bráctea inferior folíacea, de mayor longitud que la inflorescencia, envainante. Espiga masculina solitaria, de (15)30-50(60) mm, linear o estrechamente fusiforme; espigas femeninas (3)4-5(6), de (4)6-9 mm, ovoides, densifloras, superior junto a la masculina, el resto espaciadas por una distancia tanto mayor cuanto más inferiores, la más inferior largamente pedunculada, erectas. Glumas masculinas estrechamente ovales u oblongas, ± obtusas, hialinas; glumas femeninas ovales, agudas o mucronuladas, hialinas, de menor longitud que los utrículos. Estigmas 3. Utrículos 2-2,8 × 1-1,4 mm, suberectos, de contorno obovado o elíptico, trígonos, con 3 nervios muy prominentes, con un denso indumento de pelos blancos en la parte superior y glabros o casi en la inferior, verdosos, ligeramente estipitidados, bruscamente estrechados en un pico de 0,3-0,5 mm, de ápice hialino, irregularmente roto, muy raramente bífido. Translation Tufted, with a ± robust rhizome, sometimes with somewhat elongated internodes. Stems (30)50–70(100) cm, obtusely trigonous, almost smooth or scabrid. Leaves (2)2.5–5.5(5) mm wide, as long as or longer than the stems, very rough on the margins, flat; ligule 4–8 mm; apex obtuse or acute; without an anteligule; basal sheaths scale-like, entire, pale brown or reddish. Lower bract leaf-like, longer than the inflorescence, sheathing. Male spike solitary, (15)30–50(60) mm, linear or narrowly fusiform; female spikes (3)4–5(6), (4)6–9 mm, ovoid, densely flowered, the upper close to the male spike and the others spaced by increasingly greater distances downward, the lowermost long-pedunculate, erect.
